Know The Season You Are In

Joy Revie

After all that lovely hot summer sunshine, it does feel like the weather is changing and we are drifting into autumn. Cooler temps, nights drawing in, and autumn tints on the trees!

And so it is with our life’s seasons. Our life's purpose is connected to a specific time or season which changes over time. The Bible is very clear on this:

To everything there is a season. A time for every purpose under Heaven.
Ecclesiastes 3:1 (NKJV)

Some of God's purposes may be fulfilled in a short time, while others may take a lifetime. I read recently that it is important to understand what season you are in so you can make the most of it and enjoy it to the fullest. Then when one season ends you are able to graciously transition to the next.... and there is where I got stuck!!

I would love to say that I am calmly and graciously waiting for my next season, but honestly the reality is I have never felt more challenged and afraid.

As time went on, nothing was working to my plan and expectations! I started to doubt myself. I began to deeply feel that I had misread the signs and spiritual promptings. Fear began to overwhelm me and I felt anxious all the time. I was not transitioning well.

I had a lot to learn about waiting.

Then I went to the Beloved Women's conference and God graciously had words of reassurance for me. That He was working to His timescale not mine!! (obviously, but good to hear) and, although I was in a transition season, there was still much for me to do and learn.

It wasn’t just the ability to wait, but how to live well while waiting; that this period was important because it was the foundation for everything to follow and that involved:

  • Preparation - like any journey or event, good preparation is key. Stepping out into a new adventure is a step of faith and risk but I had to continue to seek out and learn new skills. This takes time.

  • Resilience - digging deep and standing firm when the Enemy is whispering doubts in your ear. A recent daily reading really encouraged me:

Yet opposition comes with extravagant faith..You are aware of the moves of the enemy sent to undermine that faith, bringing distraction and fear. I am increasing your discernment in these times. This is a crash course for you in discernment that will serve my Kingdom purposes well into the seasons to come.

Do not shy away from it. Do not think that it is someone else’s calling, for it is time for you to respond to the warrior cry that I have placed within you. Release the fear that you have surrounding this to me, and let me guide you in razor sharp focus to see and discern.

I will show you strategies that will surprise and delight you. For with me, warfare and discernment is not heavy but a joy to thwart the plans of the enemy and take ground for my Kingdom.

  • Trust - I love the picture of Jesus asleep at the back of the boat during a wild storm.

What trust Jesus had in his Father to protect him, no matter what the circumstances! I am challenged to have that same trust ,because the Bible reassures us over and over again of our safety and protection.

Our trust is only tested when we are out of our comfort zones and not relying on our own strength. I have found these 2 verses very reassuring:

For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.
2 Timothy 1:7 (NLT)

For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a Mighty Saviour. He will take delight in you with gladness. With His love, he will calm all your fears.
Zephaniah 3:17 (NLT)

So may I encourage you, no matter what season you are in, that you trust our Good Father and allow him to train and equip you for whatever He needs you to do, knowing that our future is secure in Him.
