He Makes The Impossible Possible
Joy Revie
I don't know about you but, sometimes for me, life can feel like I am trekking through treacle... it's just hard going. Nothing seems to work out. Little problems become bigger complicated ones, leaving me with a feeling of hitting a dead end.
It’s wearing and gets us down. Our minds go into overdrive and sleep eludes us. Peace and calm seems very remote.
I have felt like this recently and was much encouraged by a daily devotion I read last week. I would like to share it with you:
In the Spirit, I saw people standing before a massive rock wall. It reached the heavens and looked impossible to climb. Confused, they asked each other, “Didn't God lead us here? How do we move forward?”
They made camp at the base, waiting for God to act. They became settled and comfortable. Then the facade shattered like glass. God removed the obstacle and made a way to move, yet many didn’t notice. They were so used to waiting, sharing stories of past miracles, and building a life around that waiting season. They couldn’t see the obstacle was already gone.
Some of the leaders of the people, strong from their own efforts, were aware that something had shifted. They tried to climb with their upper body strength alone, but they grew tired quickly. They had trained for the wrong challenge.
But there was a different group. They were light-hearted, childlike, always moving, playing and staying nimble. These were the ones who saw the narrow way open up. Without fear, they slipped through and moved forward because they were ready, curious and unburdened.
(The obstacle is gone - Lion Bites)
I was challenged and asked myself, “Have I become too comfortable? Am I waiting for God to act, when He already has?”
Maybe the obstacle I have been praying about has already gone, and I need to walk through the way God has already opened - it's just that I haven't seen it yet. Perhaps I need to break off the limitations and containment that I have put on myself.
The Bible, as always, has encouragement and discernment:
This is what God says,
the God who builds a road right through the ocean,
who carves a path through pounding waves,
The God who summons horses and chariots and armies -
they lie down and then can’t get up;
they’re snuffed out like so many candles:
Forget about what’s happened;
don’t keep going over old history.
Be alert, be present. I am about to do something brand-new.
It’s bursting out! Don’t you see it?
There it is! I’m making a road through the desert,
rivers in the badlands.
Isaiah 43: 16-21 (MSG)
Our God is always working on our behalf. We are asked simply to remain patiently faithful, and trust in his unfailing love and plan for our lives. He won’t let us down.
Jesus said in Luke 18:27:
What is impossible with man is possible with God.
It reminds me of that wonderful worship song we sing “Waymaker” (by Sinach) where we celebrate Jesus as our Waymaker, Miracle Worker, Promise Keeper and Light in the Darkness but I especially love the lyrics:
Even when I don’t see it, You’re working
Even when I don’t feel it, You’re working
You never stop, You never stop working
So whenever it feels like one of those ‘trekking through treacle’ seasons, let's remember that He is still working it out on our behalf, regardless of what is going on around us.
